Aldrete played in the majors for 10 seasons, from 1986 to 1996, for a total of six different teams, including the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, and New York Yankees. During his career, he was primarily a utility player and was known for his versatility on the field. He played first base, outfield, and catcher. Aldrete spent three seasons as a coach for the St. Louis Cardinals before returning to the Oakland Athletics as a bench coach in 2017, where he has been since.

Throughout his MLB career, Aldrete was known for his work ethic, versatility, and commitment to the game. While he may not have been the most well-known player on his teams, he was always a valuable teammate and was respected by his peers.
