Tony Oliva is a Cuban-American former professional baseball player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batters in Minnesota Twins history. He was born on July 20, 1938, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and started playing baseball at a young age. After defecting from Cuba, he was signed by the Minnesota Twins in 1961, and he quickly became a star player for the team. Oliva's career was cut short by knee injuries, and he retired from baseball in 1976.
