In the 2006 NBA Draft, Brandon Roy was selected sixth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves but was immediately traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. Roy quickly established himself as one of the league's premier shooting guards, earning Rookie of the Year honors in his first season. He continued to improve each year, earning All-NBA Second Team honors in 2009 and 2010. However, his career was cut short by chronic knee injuries, and he announced his retirement in 2013 at just 29 years old.

After his playing days, Roy remained active in basketball. He served as the head coach at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle, where he led the team to a perfect 29-0 record and a state championship in 2017. He also served as an assistant coach at the University of Washington for a brief period in 2019. While his basketball career may have been cut short, Brandon Roy remains a beloved figure in the Pacific Northwest and is remembered as one of the most talented players of his generation.
