Fran Tarkenton

Fran Tarkenton is widely considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks in American football history. Born in Richmond, Virginia in 1940, Tarkenton’s family moved to Athens, Georgia when he was young. He played college football for the University of Georgia and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 1961. Tarkenton played for the Vikings, the New York Giants, and then returned to the Vikings before retiring in 1978. More about Fran Tarkenton

During his career, Tarkenton set numerous records and was known for his scrambling ability and his ability to make plays out of seemingly impossible situations. He was selected to nine Pro Bowls and was named first-team All-Pro in 1975. He also led the Vikings to three Super Bowl appearances in the 1970s, although they were unable to win any of them. After retiring from football, Tarkenton went on to become a successful businessman and author.

Throughout his career, Tarkenton was known for his competitive spirit and his willingness to take risks on the field. He revolutionized the quarterback position with his scrambling ability and his ability to improvise when plays broke down. Tarkenton’s career statistics are impressive, with 3,686 completions for 47,003 yards and 342 touchdowns.
