Don Cherry was born on February 5, 1934, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. From an early age, he was passionate about hockey and began playing in various leagues. He played for a number of junior teams before signing with the American Hockey League in 1955. In his first season, he played for the Rochester Americans and was named Rookie of the Year.
