Doug Wilson Autographs
Doug Wilson is a former professional ice hockey defenseman who played for 16 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on July 5, 1957, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and began his hockey career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where he played for the Ottawa 67's. Wilson was a standout player in the OHL, winning multiple awards, and was also named to the OHL First All-Star Team twice.
In 1977, Wilson was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round, sixth overall, and began his NHL career with the team in the same year. He quickly made a name for himself as a talented offensive defenseman and became the first defenseman in NHL history to score 39 goals in a season. He was also a seven-time NHL All-Star, and his outstanding performance on the ice earned him the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman in 1982. In 1990, Wilson was traded to the San Jose Sharks, where he finished his career as a player.
Following his retirement from professional hockey in 1993, Wilson became a coach and was eventually hired as the general manager of the San Jose Sharks in 2003. He has since led the team to multiple playoff appearances and was awarded the NHL General Manager of the Year Award in 2011. In addition to his successful management career, Wilson was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest defensemen to have ever played in the NHL.
