Jimmy Howard is a retired American professional ice hockey goaltender who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on March 26th 1984, in Syracuse, New York, and raised in Ogdensburg, New York. Howard first began playing ice hockey as a child, and his talent was quickly recognized. He played three seasons of junior ice hockey with the U.S. National Development Team and then attended the University of Maine. He was drafted in the second round, 64th overall, by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Howard made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings in 2005, where he spent his entire career until he retired in 2021. During his time with the Red Wings, he established himself as one of the top goaltenders in the league. Howard became the starting goaltender for the Red Wings in the 2009-10 NHL season, and he led the team to the Stanley Cup Finals, before losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Throughout his career, Howard received numerous accolades, including being named an NHL All-Star in 2012. He was also selected to represent Team USA at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where he won a bronze medal.
Despite his talent, Howard faced some injury setbacks in the latter part of his career, which led to his retirement. Over his career, he played in 543 regular season games, with a career save percentage of .912 and a goals against average of 2.62. Jimmy Howard will always be remembered for his dedication, determination, and skill on the ice, which helped to make him one of the most respected goaltenders of his era.
