Mark Howe is a retired professional ice hockey player who was born on May 28, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of Gordie Howe, who is still considered one of the best in NHL history. Mark started his professional hockey career in 1973 when he joined his father's former team, the Houston Aeros of the World Hockey Association (WHA). In 1979, Mark was drafted to the Boston Bruins, where he played for only one season before being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. He spent the most successful years of his career in Philadelphia, where he spent ten seasons. During his time with the Flyers, he won two Norris Trophies, which is awarded to the league's best defenseman. He was an integral part of the Flyers team that made it to the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals, although they were eventually defeated by the Edmonton Oilers in seven games.

After his time with the Flyers, Mark played for the Detroit Red Wings before retiring in 1995 due to injuries. In his 22-year career, he scored 197 goals and 545 assists, with a total of 742 points in 1,355 games. He was also a member of the 1980 US Olympic hockey team that won the gold medal in Lake Placid.
