Tejada's baseball journey started in his hometown of Santiago de Veraguas, Panama, where he was recruited to play for the Mets organization. He quickly established himself as a reliable infielder and showed promise in his early days with the team. In 2012, he helped the Mets reach the playoffs after they finished with a 74-88 record.
