Yunel Escobar is a retired Cuban professional baseball shortstop who played for 10 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on November 2, 1982, in Havana, Cuba, and made his MLB debut in 2007 with the Atlanta Braves. During his long career, Yunel Escobar played for various teams, including the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels, and Washington Nationals. During his time with the Toronto Blue Jays, he had his best season in 2011, where he batted .290 with 11 home runs, 77 runs batted in, and 74 runs scored, finishing 13th in the American League in batting average. He continued to excel in the years that followed, and he proved to be one of the finest shortstops in baseball.

Escobar retired in 2018, finishing his baseball career with a .282 batting average, 77 home runs, and 618 runs batted in. Known for his excellent defense and steady hitting, he was well-respected among other players and was a fan favorite.
