Dan Rooney, born on July 20, 1932, was an American football executive and the longtime owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the son of Steelers founder Art Rooney and played a vital role in turning the Steelers into one of the most successful franchises in the NFL. Rooney's career in the NFL began in 1955 when he started working as the team’s water boy. He quickly worked his way up the ranks and was eventually appointed as the team's general manager in 1969. He was elected as the chairman of the league's diversity committee in 1993 and held the role until 2009.
