Niedermayer's professional career began in 1991 when he was drafted third overall by the New Jersey Devils. He spent most of his career with the Devils, playing with them from 1992 until 2005, where he won three Stanley Cups with the team. In 2005, Niedermayer signed with the Anaheim Ducks, where he played until his retirement in 2010. During his career, Niedermayer was considered one of the best defensemen in the league, earning numerous awards, including the Norris Trophy, an honor given to the league's best defenseman. He was also a 5-time NHL All-Star, won two Olympic gold medals, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.

Off the ice, Niedermayer was known for his calm and composed demeanor, which translated into his playing style. He was an excellent team player, a leader both on and off the ice, and was highly respected by his teammates and rivals alike. His contributions to the sport of ice hockey are immeasurable, and his legacy as one of the all-time greats will continue to inspire future generations of hockey players for years to come.
