Murphy didn't waste much time carving out a name for himself in the league. He made his debut for the Red Sox in 2006 after playing for a couple of Minor League teams. He was later traded to the Texas Rangers, where his career took off. In 2012, he was a part of the team that went to the World Series but lost to the San Francisco Giants. In the same year, he recorded a career-high 93 RBI and earned the Player of the Month award for July.

Over his career, Murphy played for four teams, including the Cleveland Indians and the Los Angeles Angels. He ended his career with a batting average of .274, 104 home runs, and 472 RBI. Apart from his skills on the field, Murphy is known for his philanthropy. He established the David Murphy Scholarship Fund, which supports students at Baylor University. In his retirement, he has taken up broadcasting and appears on radio and TV shows to provide baseball commentary. Murphy's legacy as a talented player and a dedicated humanitarian continues to inspire people both on and off the field.
