Eric Wedge is a former Major League Baseball player and manager, born on January 27, 1968, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended Wichita State University, where he played college baseball for the Shockers. After his college career, Wedge was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 1989 MLB draft. He played in the minor leagues for the Red Sox and Colorado Rockies before making his MLB debut with the Red Sox in 1991. More about Eric Wedge

Wedge played five seasons in the majors as a catcher with the Red Sox, Rockies, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He hit .233 with 20 home runs and 75 RBI in 39 games throughout his career. After his playing days, Wedge transitioned into coaching, serving as a minor league manager for the Pirates and Cleveland Indians. He was named the manager of the Indians in 2003, and he led the team to the American League Championship Series in 2007. Wedge managed the Indians until 2009 before taking over as the skipper of the Seattle Mariners in 2011. He managed the Mariners for three seasons, compiling a record of 213-273.

Wedge is known for his no-nonsense approach to the game of baseball. He was a strong leader who demanded hard work and dedication from his players. Wedge was also an advocate for advanced statistics and helped bring those numbers into the mainstream during his time as a manager. Despite not having the most successful managerial career, Wedge's impact on the game cannot be denied.
