Gio Gonzalez is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played for various teams in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2008 to 2020. Born on September 19, 1985, in Hialeah, Florida, Gonzalez attended Monsignor Edward Pace High School, where he began playing baseball. In 2006, Gonzalez made his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics and played for the team until 2011. He then played for the Washington Nationals (2012–2018), Milwaukee Brewers (2018), Chicago White Sox (2019), and lastly, the Miami Marlins (2020). Throughout his career, Gonzalez pitched 1,838 innings and had a career record of 131-101, an ERA of 3.70, and 1,669 strikeouts.

Gonzalez's career highlights include being a two-time All-Star in 2011 and 2012, receiving a fifth-place finish in the 2012 Cy Young Award voting, and winning a National League pennant with the Nationals in 2019. Additionally, he led the American League in earned run average (ERA) in 2011 and was part of a combined no-hitter in 2019 with the Brewers. After announcing his retirement from professional baseball in February 2021, Gio Gonzalez will be remembered as a talented and versatile left-handed pitcher who left his mark on the sport.
