Matthew Richard Wieters, professionally known as Matt Wieters, was born on May 21, 1986, in Charleston, South Carolina. He attended Stratford High School and eventually went to Georgia Institute of Technology, where he played college baseball. Wieters had an impressive college career, receiving a long list of honors which included the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Year in 2007, and the Dick Howser Trophy awarded to the nation’s top college player. After becoming a free agent in 2016, Wieters signed with the Washington Nationals. Since then, he has continued to put up decent numbers and contribute to his team’s success. In 2019, Wieters recorded a career-high batting average of .262 and hit 11 home runs, while also providing reliable defense behind the plate. Although he has dealt with injuries and faced occasional slumps, Wieters remains a respected veteran in the league and a valuable asset to any team he plays for.
