Ryne Sandberg is a former American professional baseball player, known for his spectacular career with the Chicago Cubs as a second baseman. He was born on September 18, 1959, in Spokane, Washington. Sandberg began his career in the minor leagues with the Phillies before being traded to the Cubs, where he quickly established himself as one of the best second basemen in the game.
Sandberg's baseball career highlights include a career batting average of .285, 2,386 hits, 1,318 runs scored, and 282 home runs. He was an excellent fielder, winning nine Gold Glove awards during his career. Sandberg was also one of the best power-hitting second basemen in MLB history, ranking third all-time in career home runs by a second baseman, only behind Jeff Kent and Rogers Hornsby.
Sandberg was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005, which was a well-deserved honor for his outstanding baseball career.
