Johan Franzen is a former Swedish professional ice hockey player. Born on December 23, 1979, in Vetlanda, Sweden, he began his hockey career in Europe before transferring to play in North America. In 2004, Franzen signed with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). With the Red Wings, Franzen enjoyed a stellar and lengthy career until his retirement in 2015 due to recurring head injuries. During his NHL career, Johan Franzen became known for his work ethic and clutch scoring ability in the playoffs. He helped lead the Detroit Red Wings to two Stanley Cup championships in 2008 and 2009.
