Gene Simmons, born Chaim Witz, is a rock icon, best known as the bassist and co-founder of the legendary rock band, KISS. Born in Israel, Simmons migrated to the United States with his mother when he was just eight years old. With a passion for music from an early age, he performed in various bands before eventually starting KISS in 1973 along with Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley.
Under Gene Simmons' leadership, KISS quickly became one of the most popular bands of the 1970s, fusing rock, glam, and theatrics to create a unique musical persona. Known for their elaborate stage performances, elaborate costumes, and signature makeup, KISS became a defining characteristic of the rock era. Gene Simmons' powerful bass playing and songwriting were a vital part of the band's sound, and he wrote many of the band's biggest hits, including "Rock and Roll All Nite," "Deuce," and "Detroit Rock City."
Beyond KISS, Gene Simmons had an active solo career, releasing his first solo album in 1978. He also wrote and produced music outside of his work with KISS, including tracks for the movies "Runaway" and "Trick Or Treat." Simmons was not just limited to music-making, he has also been known to make a name for himself in business ventures, television, and movies. Nonetheless, his impact as a musician remains paramount to his legacy to date.
