Delmon YoungDelmon Young is a former professional baseball player from the United States. Young was born on September 14, 1985, in Birmingham, Alabama. He played for various teams in the Major League Baseball (MLB) during his career. He made his debut in professional baseball in 2006 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Young was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2003 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He had a very productive rookie season, and he was named the American League Rookie of the Year in 2007. Young also played for teams such as the Minnesota Twins, the Detroit Tigers, and the Philadelphia Phillies. He was known for his strong hitting abilities and his overall athleticism. However, he also had some struggles off the field and was arrested multiple times for various incidents, including shouting anti-Semitic slurs during a game. Following his arrest, he underwent mandatory counseling and community service, and he apologized for his behavior.
Young retired from baseball in 2019. He finished his career with a .283 batting average, 109 home runs, and 566 runs batted in. Despite his rocky reputation off the field, Young was a talented player and made significant contributions to the teams he played for. His legacy in the sport of baseball will be remembered for his impressive hitting skills and his explosive athleticism on the field.
