Born on January 7, 1976, in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, Alfonso Soriano is a retired professional baseball player. His career as a baseball player began in 1996 when he signed with Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Japanese Professional Baseball League. He made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees in 1999 and played with several other teams, including the Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees. Throughout his baseball career, Soriano accumulated numerous achievements, including being named an All-Star seven times, winning four Silver Slugger Awards, leading the American League in stolen bases in 2002 and 2003, and hitting 30 or more home runs in four seasons. In 2006, Soriano hit 46 home runs and stole 41 bases, making him only the fourth player in baseball history to have a 40-40 season.

Soriano's baseball career ended in 2014, and he finished with 412 home runs, 1,159 runs batted in, 2,095 hits, and a .270 batting average. After retiring, he returned to the Dominican Republic and started a scholarship program to help young baseball players from his hometown to succeed in professional baseball.
